A Nursing Update on Feline Blood Transfusions
(inkl. USt.)
Blood transfusions can be a lifesaving therapy for many patients. They are used to treat a range of haemodynamic conditions in cats. Although relatively common, transfusion carry their own set of risks and should not be viewed as a benign procedure. Cats carry a greater risk of transfusion incompatibility and therefore a reaction may be more likely (Malik R, 2005). These risks can be minimized with careful donor selection, laboratory analysis and an understanding of patient monitoring for signs of transfusion reaction. Feline blood transfusions are very interesting and can be led by nurses from start to finish!
